The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has introduced a new type of wheat seed designed to thrive in barren lands, potentially enabling the country to achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production.
According to Dr. Niyaz Khoro, this new wheat seed category is expected to yield 30 times more wheat compared to previous seeds.
An awareness exhibition was recently held in Faisalabad for farmers and agricultural experts to launch the new seed. Additionally, non-toxic agrochemicals and low-cost alternatives for urea fertilizers were showcased during the exhibition to further enhance productivity.
This breakthrough has the potential to revolutionize Pakistan's agriculture sector by transforming millions of hectares of barren land into productive wheat fields if the new seed is made widely available.
The production of this innovative seed is anticipated to reduce Pakistan's dependence on wheat imports and position it as a leading global wheat producer.
The efforts of the PAEC in developing a wheat seed suitable for barren lands are commendable, especially considering the importance of wheat as a staple crop in Pakistan and the country's ongoing struggle to meet domestic demand.
